City of Fredericton New Brunswick Councillor Mike O'Brien

Welcome...

Hello, and welcome to Fredericton Ward 3 Councillor Mike O'Brien's Web Site. I am proud to be the only Councillor for the City of Fredericton to have such a site. It has been up and running for several years and has become a valuable source of two-way communications.

Please take the time to browse through the various sections. The "Ward News" section is a newsletter listing issues of particular interest to our Fulton Heights & North Devon communities. The "Council Updates" section contains highlights from recent Council meetings and issues affecting the city as a whole. There are also many informative "links" and an array of pictures that depict the beauty of our capital city of Fredericton.

In order to keep you informed, these items are regularly updated. Make sure to "bookmark" the site and return often to see what is new. Before exiting, please take the time to send me a message with your comments or suggestions. Many residents of Fredericton, New Brunswick and other locales are, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Breaking News In Fredericton..
On December 20th, we (Mayor and Council) released the details of the city's 2007 budget. The city is experiencing record growth and development, and the resulting increased tax base revenues has allowed us to keep the municipal tax rate unchanged. This is great news for all residents.

The city itself is in the midst of its most profound builidng construction program in its history: Sports & liesure complexes, a major refurbishment of the Lady Beaverbrook Area, the construction of oudoor pools ; the construction of two new fire stations, a $1.5 million partnership with UNB for artificial turf soccer fields, the planning for construction of a new water treatment plant and the planning for a new downtown conference centre. Council has also embraced the new 5-year stragic plan of the police force, and are hiring 7 new officers and 3 civilian workers.

We are able to do all of this work, along with the most aggresive paving, curb/gutter and water infrastructure renewal program in eastern Canada, with no tax increase. This is possible due to decades of sound fiscal managment by staff and Councils, both past and present. Consider this our Christmas present to all residents.
